2:1 Vayikrevu yemei-David lamut vayetzav et-Shlomo veno lemor.
King David's days drew near to die, and he instructed his son Shlomo, saying;

2 Anochi holech bederech kol-ha'aretz vechazakta vehayita le'ish.
"I am going the way of all the earth; be strong and become a man.

3 Veshamarta et-mishmeret HASHEM Elokeicha lalechet bidrachav lishmor chukotav mitzvotav umishpatav ve'edotav kakatuv betorat Moshe lema'an taskil et kol-asher ta'aseh ve'et kol-asher tifneh sham.
Safeguard the charge of HASHEM, your G-d, to walk in His ways, to observe his decrees, commandments, ordiances and testimonies, as written in the Torah of Moshe, so that you will succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn;

4 Lema'an yakim HASHEM et-devaro asher diber alai lemor im-yishmeru vaneicha et-darkam lalechet lefanai be'emet bechol-levavam uvechol-nafsham lemor lo-yikaret lecha ish me'al kise Yisrael.
so that HASHEM will uphold His word that He spoke regarding me, saying, 'If your children will safeguard their way, to walk before Me sincerely, with all their heart and with all their soul,' saying, 'no man of yours will ever be cut off from upon the throne of Yisrael.'

5 Vegam atah yadata et asher-asah li Yoav ben-Tzruya asher asah lishnei- sarei tziv'ot Yisrael le-Avner ben-Ner vela-Amasa ven-Yeter vayahargem vayasem demei-milchamah beshalom vayiten demei milchamah bachagorato asher bemotnav uvena'alo asher beraglav.
Furthermore, you know what Yoav son of Tzeruya did to me, what he did to two commanders of the armies of Yisrael - to Avner son of Ner and to Amasa son of Yeter - whom he killed, shedding blood of war in peacetime, and placing the blood of war in the girdle that is on his loins and on his shoes that are on his feet.

6 Ve'asita kechochmatecha velo-tored seivato beshalom sheol.
You shall act according to your wisdom, and do not allow his white hair to go down to the grave in peace.

7 Velivnei Varzillai haGiladi ta'aseh-chesed vehayu be'ochelei shulchanecha ki-chen karevu elai bevorechi mipenei Avshalom achicha.
Towards the children of Barzillai the Giladi act with kindness, and they shall be among those who eat at your table, for in this way they befriended me when I fled from Avshalom your brother.

8 Vehineh imecha Shim'i ven-Gera ven-haYemini miBachurim vehu kilelani kelalah nimretzet beyom lechti Machanayim vehu-yarad likrati haYarden va'eshava lo v'HASHEM lemor im-amitecha becharev.
Behold, with you is Shim'i son of Gera, the Yemini from Bachurim. He cursed me with a powerful curse on the the day I went to Machanayim; but he came down to meet me at the Yarden, and I swore to him by HASHEM, saying 'I will not put you to death by the sword.'

9 Ve'atah al-tenakehu ki ish chacham atah veyadata et asher ta'aseh-lo vehoradeta et-seyvato bedam sheol.
But now, you shall not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man, and you will know what you are to do to him; and you shall bring his white hair to the grave in blood."

10 Vayishkav David im-avotav vayikaver be'ir David.
David lay with his forefathers and was buried in the City of David.

11 Vehayamim asher malach David al-Yisrael arba'im shanah beChevron malach sheva shanim uviYerushalayim malach shloshim veshalosh shanim.
The days that David reigned over Yisra'el were forty years; in Chevron he reigned for seven years and in Yerushalayim he reigned for thirty-three years.
