3:15 Vayikatz Shlomo vehineh chalom vayavo Yerushalayim vaya'amod lifnei aron brit-Hashem vaya'al olot vaya'as shlamim vaya'as mishteh lechol-avadav.
Shlomo awoke, and behold, it had been a dream. When he came to Yerushalayim, he stood before the Ark of the Covenant of HASHEM and brought up elevation-offerings and offered peace-offerings; and he made a feast for all his servants.
16 Az tavonah shtayim nashim zonot el-hamelech vata'amodnah lefanav.
Then two women, innkeepers, came to the king and stood before him.
17 Vatomer ha'ishah ha'achat bi adoni ani veha'ishah hazot yoshevot bevayit echad va'eled imah babayit.
One woman said, "Please, my master: I and this woman dwell in one house, and I gave birth while with her in the house.
18 Vayehi bayom hashlishi lelideti vateled gam-ha'ishah hazot va'anachnu yachdav eyn-zar itanu babayit zulati shtayim-anachnu babayit.
On the third day after I gave birth, this woman gave birth as well. We [were] together; there was no outsider with us in the house; only the two of us were in the house.
19 Vayamot ben-ha'ishah hazot lailah asher shachvah alav.
The son of this woman died at night, because she lay upon him.
20 Vatakom betoch halailah vatikach et-beni me'etzli va'amatcha yeshenah vatashkivehu becheikah ve'et-benah hamet hishkivah vecheiki.
She arose during the night and took my son from my side while your maidservant was asleep, and laid him in her bosom, and her dead son she laid in my bosom.
21 Va'akum baboker leheinik et-beni vehineh-met va'etbonen elav baboker vehineh lo-hayah veni asher yaladeti.
When I arose in the morning to nurse my son, behold, he was dead! When I studied him in the morning, behold it was not the son to whom I had given birth."
22 Vatomer ha'ishah ha'acheret lo chi beni hachai uvenech hamet vezot omeret lo chi benech hamet uveni hechai vatedabernah lifnei hamelech.
But the other woman said, "It is not so! My son is the live one, and your son is the dead one!"
23 Vayomer hamelech zot omeret zeh-bni hachai uvenech hamet vezot omeret lo khi benech hamet uveni hechai.
The king said, "This one claims, 'This is my son, who is alive, and your son is the dead one,' and this one claims, 'It is not so! Your son is the dead one, and my son is the live one.'"
24 Vayomer hamelech kechu-li charev vayavi'u hacherev lifnei hamelech.
So the king said, "Fetch me a sword!" and they brought a sword before the king.
25 Vayomer hamelech gizru et-hayeled hachai lishnayim utnu et-hachatzi le'achat ve'et-hachatzi le'echat.
The king said, "Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other."
26 Vatomer ha'ishah asher-benah hachai el-hamelech ki-nichmeru rachameiha al-benah vatomer bi adoni tnu-lah et-hayalud hachai vehamet al-temituhu vezot omeret gam-li gam-lach lo yihyeh gezoru.
The woman whose son was the live one spoke to the king - because her compassion was aroused for her son - and she said, "Please, my master, give her the living newborn, and do not put it to death!" But the other one said, "Neither mine nor yours shall he be. Cut!"
27 Vaya'an hamelech vayomer tnu-lah et-hayalud hachai vehamet lo temituhu hi imo.
The king spoke up and said, "Give her [the first one] the living newborn and do not put it to death; she is his mother!"
28 Vayishme'u chol-Yisrael et-hamishpat asher shafat hamelech vayir'u mipnei hamelech ki ra'u ki-chochmat Elokim bekirbo la'asot mishpat.
All Yisrael heard the judgment that the king rendered and they were in awe of the king, for they saw that the wisdom of G-d was within him, to do justice.
4:1 Vayehi hamelech Shlomo melech al-kol-Yisrael.
So King Shlomo was king over all Yisrael.
