Shemot 16:1 - 23:33
16:1 Vayis'u me'Eilim vayavo'u kol-adat benei-Yisrael el-midbar-Sin asher bein-Eilim uvein Sinai bachamishah asar yom lachodesh hasheni letzetam me'eretz Mitzrayim.
And they journeyed from Eilim, and all the congregation of the children of Yisrael came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Eilim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt.
2 Vayilonu kol-adat benei-Yisrael al-Moshe ve'al-Aharon bamidbar.
Then the whole congregation of the children of Yisrael complained against Moshe and Aharon in the wilderness.
3 Vayomru alehem benei Yisrael mi-yiten mutenu veyad HASHEM be'eretz Mitzrayim beshivtenu al-sir habasar be'ochlenu lechem lasova ki-hotzetem otanu el-hamidbar hazeh lehamit et-kol-hakahal hazeh bara'av.
And the children of Yisrael said to them, "Oh, that we had died by the hand of HASHEM in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."
4 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe hineni mamtir lachem lechem min-hashamayim veyatza ha'am velaktu dvar-yom beyomo lema'an anasenu hayelech betorati im-lo.
Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Torah or not.
Then HASHEM said to Moshe, "
5 Vehayah bayom hashishi vehechinu et asher-yavi'u vehayah mishneh al asher-yilketu yom yom.
And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily."6 Vayomer Moshe ve'Aharon el-kol-benei Yisrael erev vidatem ki HASHE hotzi etchem me'eretz Mitzrayim.
Then Moshe and Aharon said to all the children of Yisrael, "At evening you shall know that HASHEM has brought you out of the land of Egypt.7 Uvoker ure'item et-kevod HASHEM beshom'o et-tlunoteIchem al-HASHEM venachnu mah ki talinu aleinu.
And in the morning you shall see the glory of HASHEM; for He hears your complaints against HASHEM. But what are we, that you complain against us?"8 Vayomer Moshe betet HASHEM lachem ba'erev basar le'echol velechem baboker lisboa bishmoa HASHEM et-tlunoteichem asher-atem malinim alav venachnu mah lo-aleinu telunoteichem ki al-HASHEM.
Also Moshe said, "This shall be seen when HASHEM gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to the full; for HASHEM hears your complaints which you make against Him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but against HASHEM.'9 Vayomer Moshe el-Aharon emor el-kol-adat benei Yisrael kirevu lifnei HASHEM ki shama et telunoteichem.
Then Moshe spoke to Aharon, "Say to all the congregation of the children of Yisrael, 'Come near before HASHEM, for He has heard your complaints.'"10 Vayehi kedaber Aharon el-kol-adat benei Yisrael vayifnu el-hamidbar vehineh kvod HASHEM nir'ah be'anan.
Now it came to pass, as Aharon spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Yisrael, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of HASHEM appeared in the cloud.
Shishi
11 Vayedaber HASHEM el-Moshe lemor.
And HASHEM spoke to Moshe, saying,
12 Shamati et-telunot benei Yisrael daber alehem lemor bein ha'arba'imn tochlu vasar uvaboker tisbe'u-lachem vidatem ki ani HASHEM Elokeichem.
I have heard the complaints of the children of Yisrael. Speak to them, saying, 'At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am HASHEM your G-d.'"
13 Vayehi va'erev vata'al haslav vatechas et-hamachaneh uvaboker haytah shichvat hatal saviv lamachaneh.
So it was that quails came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp.14 Vata'al shichvat hatal vehineh al-penei hamidbar dak mechuspas dak kakfor al-ha'aretz.
And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground.15 Vayir'u venei Yisrael vayomeru ish el-achiv man hu ki lo yad'u mah-hu vayomer Moshe alehem hu halechem asher natan HASHEM lachem le'ochlah.
So when the children of Yisrael saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moshe said to them, "This is the bread which HASHEM has given you to eat.16 Zeh hadavar asher tsivah HASHEM liktu mimenu ish lefi ochlo omer lagulgolet mispar nafshoteichem ish la'asher be'aholo tikachu.
This is the thing which HASHEM has commanded: 'Let every man gather it according to each one's need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.'"17 Vaya'asu-chen benei Yisrael vayilketu hamarbeh vehamam'it.
Then the children of Yisrael did so and gathered, some more, some less.18 Vayamodu va'omer velo hedif hamarbeh vehamam'it lo hechsir ish lefi-ochlo lakatu.
So when they measured it by omers, he who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack. Every man had gathered according to each one's need.19 Vayomer Moshe alehem ish al-yoter mimenu ad-boker.
And Moshe said, "Let no one leave any of it till morning."20 Velo-sham'u el-Moshe vayotiru anashim mimenu ad-boker vayarum tola'im vayiv'ash vayiktsof alehem Moshe.
Notwithstanding they did not heed Moshe. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moshe was angry with them.21 Vayilketu oto baboker baboker ish kefi ochlo vecham hashemesh venamas.
So they gathered it every morning, every man according to his need. And when the sun became hot, it melted.22 Vayehi bayom hashishi laktu lechem mishneh shnei ha'omer la'echad vayavo'u kol-nesi'ei ha'edah vayagidu le-Moshe.
And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moshe.
Preparation for the Shabbat
23 Vayomer alehem hu asher diber HASHEM Shabbaton Shabbat-kodesh l'HASHEM machar et asher-tofu efu ve'et asher-tevashlu bashelu ve'et kol-ha'odef hanichu lachem lemishmeret ad-haboker.
Then he said to them, "This is what HASHEM has said: 'Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to HASHEM. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.'"24 Vayanichu oto ad-haboker ka'asher tzivah Moshe velo hiv'ish verimah lo hayetah-bo.
So they laid it up till morning, as Moshe commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it.25 Vayomer Moshe ichluhu hayom ki-Shabbat hayom l'HASHEM hayom lo timtza'uhu basadeh.
Then Moshe said, "Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to HASHEM; today you will not find it in the field.26 Sheshet yamim tilketuhu uvayom hashvi'i Shabbat lo yiheyeh-bo.
Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there will be none."27 Vayehi bayom hashvi'i yats'u min-ha'am lilkot velo matza'u.
Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none.28 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe ad-anah me'antem lishmor mitsvotai vetorotai.
"How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?
And HASHEM said to Moshe,29 Re'u ki-HASHEM natan lachem haShabbat al-ken hu noten lachem bayom hashishi lechem yomayim shvu ish tachtav al-yetze ish mimekomo bayom hashvi'i.
See! For HaShem has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day."
30 Vayishbetu ha'am bayom hashvi'i.
So the people rested on the seventh day.
31 Vayikre'u veit-Yisrael et-shmo man vehu kezera gad lavan vetamo ketsapichit bidvash.
And the house of Yisrael called its name man[na]. And it was like white coriander seed, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.32 Vayomer Moshe zeh hadavar asher tsivah HASHEM melo ha'omer mimenu lemishmeret ledoroteichem lema'an yir'u et-halechem asher he'echalti etchem bamidbar behotzi'i etchem me'eretz Mitzrayim.
Then Moshe said, "This is the thing which HASHEM has commanded: 'Fill an omer with it, to be kept for your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.'"33 Vayomer Moshe el-Aharon kach tzintsenet achat veten-shamah melo-ha'omer man vehanach oto lifnei HASHEM lemishmeret ledoroteichem.
And Moshe said to Aharon, "Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before HASHEM, to be kept for your generations."34 Ka'asher tsivah HASHEM el-Moshe vayanichehu Aharon lifnei ha'edut lemishmaret.
As HASHEM commanded Moshe, so Aharon laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.35 Uvenei Yisrael achlu et-haman arba'im shanah ad-bo'am el-eretz noshavet et-haman achlu ad-bo'am el-ketzeh eretz Kenaan.
And the children of Yisrael ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Kenaan.36 Veha'omer asirit ha'efah hu.
Now an omer is one-tenth of an efah.
Shevi'i
Water from the Rock
17:1 Vayis'u kol-adat bnei-Yisrael mimidbar-Sin lemas'eihem al-pi HASHEM vayachanu biRefidim ve'ein mayim lishtot ha'am.
Then all the congregation of the children of Yisrael set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of HASHEM, and camped in Refidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Vayarev ha'am im-Moshe vayomeru tnu-lanu mayim venishteh vayomer lahem Moshe mah-terivun imadi mah-tenasun et-HASHEM.
Therefore the people contended with Moshe, and said, "Give us water, that we may drink." And Moshe said to them, "Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt HASHEM?'
3 Vayitzma sham ha'am lamayim vayalen ha'am al-Moshe vayomer lamah zeh he'elitanu miMitzrayim lehamit oti ve'et-banai ve'et-miknai batzama.
And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moshe, and said, "Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?"
4 Vayitz'ak Moshe el-HASHEM lemor mah e'eseh la'am hazeh od me'at uskaluni.
So Moshe cried out to HASHEM, saying, "What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!"
5 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe avor lifnei ha'am vekach itcha miziknei Yisrael umatcha asher hikita bo et-haYe'or kach beyadcha vehalachta.
And HASHEM said to Moshe, "Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Yisrael. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go.
6 Hineni omed lefaneIcha sham al-hatsur beChorev vehikita vatzur veyats'u mimenu mayim veshatah ha'am vaya'as ken Moshe le'einei ziknei Yisrael.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Chorev; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moshe did so in the sight of the elders of Yisrael.
7 Vayikra shem hamakom Masah uMerivah al-riv benei Yisrael ve'al nasotam et-HASHEM lemor hayesh HASHEM bekirbenu im-ain.
So he called the name of the place Masah and Merivah, because of the contention of the children of Yisrael, and because they tempted HaShem, saying, "Is HASHEM among us or not?"
Amalek
8 Vayavo Amalek vayilachem im-Yisrael biRefidim.
Now Amalek came and fought with Yisrael in Refidim.
9 Vayomer Moshe el-Yehoshua bechar-lanu anashim vetse hilachem ba'Amalek machar anochi nitsav al-rosh hagiv'ah umateh ha'Elokim beyadi.
And Moshe said to Yehoshua, "Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of G-d in my hand."
10 Vaya'as Yehoshua ka'asher amar-lo Moshe lehilachem ba'Amalek uMoshe Aharon veChur alu rosh hagiv'ah.
So Yehoshua did as Moshe said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moshe, Aharon, and Chur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Vehayah ka'asher yarim Moshe yado vegavar Yisrael vecha'asher yaniach yado vegavar Amalek.
And so it was, when Moshe held up his hand, that Yisrael prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 Videi Moshe kvedim vayikchu-even vayasimu tachtav vayeshev aleiha ve'Aharon veChur tamchu veyadav mizeh echad umizeh echad vayehi yadav emunah ad-bo hashamesh.
But Moshe hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aharon and Chur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 Vayachalosh Yehoshua et-Amalek ve'et-amo lefi-charev.
So Yehoshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Maftir
14 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe ketov zot zikaron basefer vesim be'oznei Yehoshua ki-machoh emcheh et-zecher Amalek mitachat hashamayim.
Then HASHEM said to Moshe, "Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Yehoshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven."
15 Vayiven Moshe mizbeach vayikra shmo HASHEM Nissi.
And Moshe built an altar and called its name, HASHEM-IS-MY-MIRACLE;
16 Vayomer ki-yad al-kes yah milchamah l'HASHEM ba'Amalek midor dor.
for he said, "The hand is on G-d's throne, HASHEM will be at war with Amalek for all generations."
Yitro's Arrival
18:1 Vayishma Yitro chohen Midyan choten Moshe et kol-asher asah Elokim le-Moshe ule-Yisrael amo ki-hotzi HASHEM et-Yisrael miMitzrayim.
And Yitro, the priest of Midyan, Moshe's father-in-law, heard of all that G-d had done for Moshe and for Yisrael His people--that HASHEM had brought Yisrael out of Egypt.
2 Vayikach Yitro choten Moshe et-Tziporah eshet Moshe achar shilucheiha.
Moshe's father-in-law, Yitro took Moshe's wife, Tziporah, after he had sent her back [home],
3 Ve'et shnei vaneiha asher shem ha'echad Gershom ki amar ger hayiti be'eretz nochryah.
along with her two sons. The name of one was Gershom, because he [Moshe] had said, "I was a stranger in an alien land."
4 Veshem ha'echad Eli'ezer ki-Elokei avi be'ezri vayatzileni mecherev Par'oh.
The name of the [other] one was Eliezer, because the G-d of my father was my help and rescued me from the sword of Pharaoh.
5 Vayavo Yitro choten Moshe uvanav ve'ishto el-Moshe el-hamidbar asher-hu choneh sham har ha'Elokim.
Moshe's father-in-law, Yitro came with his sons and his wife to Moshe in the wilderness, where he was encamped at the mountain of G-d.
6 Vayomer el-Moshe ani chotencha Yitro ba eleicha ve'ishtecha ushnei vaneiha imah.
Now he had said to Moshe, "I, your father-in-law Yitro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons with her."
7 Vayetze Moshe likrat chotno vayishtachu vayishak-lo vayish'alu ish-lere'ehu leshalom vayavo'u ha'ohelah.
So Moshe went out to meet his father-in-law, bowed down, and kissed him. And they asked each other about their well-being, and they went into the tent.
8 Vayesaper Moshe lechoteno et kol-asher asah HASHEM le-Par'oh ul-Mitzrayim al odot Yisrael et kol-hatla'ah asher metza'atam baderech vayatzilem HASHEM.
And Moshe told his father-in-law all that HASHEM had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Yisrael's sake, all the hardship that had come upon them on the way, and how HASHEM had delivered them.
9 Vayichad Yitro al kol-hatovah asher-asah HASHEM le-Yisrael asher hitzilo miyad Mitzrayim.
Then Yitro rejoiced for all the good which HASHEM had done for Yisrael, whom He had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10 Vayomer Yitro baruch HASHEM asher hitzil etchem miyad Mitzrayim umiyad Par'oh asher hitzil et-ha'am mitachat yad-Mitzrayim.
And Yitro said, "Blessed be HASHEM , who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, and who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11 Atah yadati ki-gadol HASHEM mikol-ha'elohim ki vadavar asher zadu aleihem.
Now I know that HASHEM is greater than all the G-d; for in the very thing in which they behaved proudly, He was above them."
12 Vayikach Yitro choten Moshe olah uzvachim l'Elokim vayavo Aharon vechol ziknei Yisrael le'echol-lechem im-choten Moshe lifnei ha'Elokim.
Then Yitro, Moshe's father-in-law, took a burnt offering and other sacrifices to offer to G-d. And Aharon came with all the elders of Yisrael to eat bread with Moshe's father-in-law before G-d.
Sheni
"Thus you shall say to the house of Yaakov, and tell the children of Yisrael:
13 Vayehi mimachorat vayeshev Moshe lishpot et-ha'am vaya'amod ha'am al-Moshe min-haboker ad-ha'arev.
And so it was, on the next day, that Moshe sat to judge the people; and the people stood before Moshe from morning until evening.
14 Vayar choten Moshe et kol-asher-hu oseh la'am vayomer mah-hadavar hazeh asher atah oseh la'am madua atah yoshev levadecha vechol-ha'am nitzav aleycha min-boker ad-arev.
So when Moshe's father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said, "What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?"
15 Vayomer Moshe lechotno ki-yavo elai ha'am lidrosh Elokim.
And Moshe said to his father-in-law, "Because the people come to me to inquire of G-d.
16 Ki-yihyeh lahem davar ba elai veshafateti bein ish uvein re'ehu vehodati et-chukei ha'Elokim ve'et-torotav.
When they have a difficulty, they come to me, and I judge between one and another; and I make known the statutes of G-d and His laws."
17 Vayomer choten Moshe elav lo-tov hadavar asher atah oseh.
So Moshe's father-in-law said to him, "The thing that you do is not good.
18 Navol tibol gam-atah gam-ha'am hazeh asher imach ki-chaved mimcha hadavar lo-tuchal asohu levadecha.
Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.
19 Atah shmah bekoli iyatzecha vyhi Elokim imach heyeh atah la'am mul ha'Elokim veheveta atah et-hadevarim el-ha'Elokim.
Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and G-d will be with you: Stand before G-d for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to G-d.
20 Vehizhartah ethem et-hachukim ve'et-hatorot vehodata lahem et-haderech yelchu vah ve'et-hama'aseh asher ya'asun.
And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.
21 Ve'atah techezeh mikol-ha'am anshei-chayil yir'ei Elokim anshei emet son'ei vatsa vesamta alehem sarei alafim sarei me'ot sarei chamishim vesarei asarot.
Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear G-d, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
22 Veshaftu et-ha'am bechol-et vehayah kol-hadavar hagadol yavi'u eleicha vechol-hadavar hakaton yishpetu-hem vehakel me'aleicha venas'u itach.
And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you.
23 Im et-hadavar hazeh ta'aseh vetsivecha Elokim veyacholta amod vegam kol-ha'am hazeh al-mekomo yavo veshalom.
If you do this thing, and G-d so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace."
Shlishi
24 Vayishma Moshe lekol chotno vaya'as kol asher amar.
So Moshe heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.
25 Vayivchar Moshe anshei-chayil mikol-Yisrael vayiten otam rashim al-ha'am sarei alafim sarei me'ot sarei chamishim vesarei asarot.
And Moshe chose able men out of all Yisrael, and made them heads over the people: rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
26 Veshaftu et-ha'am bechol-et et-hadavar hakasheh yevi'un el-Moshe vechol-hadavar hakaton yishputu hem.
So they judged the people at all times; the hard cases they brought to Moshe, but they judged every small case themselves.
27 Vayeshalach Moshe et-chotno vayelech lo el-artso.
Then Moshe let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way to his own land.
Revi'i
Arrival at Mount Sinai
19:1 Bachodesh hashlishi letzet benei-Yisrael me'eretz Mitzrayim bayom hazeh ba'u midbar Sinai.
In the third month after the children of Yisrael had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai.
2 Vayis'u meRfidim vayavo'u midbar Sinai vayachanu bamidbar vayichan-sham Yisrael neged hahar.
For they had departed from Refidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Yisrael camped there before the mountain.
3 UMoshe alah el-ha'Elokim vayikra elav HASHEM min-hahar lemor koh tomar leveit-Yaakov vetageid livnei Yisrael.
And Moshe went up to G-d, and HASHEM called to him from the mountain, saying,
4 Atem re'item asher asiti le-Mitzrayim va'esa etchem al-kanfeI nesharim va'avi etchem elai.
'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself.
5 Ve'atah im-shamoa tishme'u bekoli ushmartem et-briti viheyitem li sgulah mikol-ha'amim ki-li kol-ha'aretz.
Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
6 Ve'atem tiheyu-li mamlechet kohanim vegoy kadosh eleh hadevarim asher tedaber el-benei Yisrael.
And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Yisrael."
Chamishi
"Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.
7 Vayavo Moshe vayikra leziknei ha'am vayasem lifneihem et kol-hadevarim ha'eleh asher tzivahu HASHEM.
So Moshe came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which HASHEM commanded him.
8 Vaya'anu chol-ha'am yachdav vayomeru kol asher-diber HASHEM na'aseh vayashev Moshe et-divrei ha'am el-HASHEM.
Then all the people answered together and said, "All that HASHEM has spoken we will do." So Moshe brought back the words of the people to HASHEM.
9 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe hineh anochi ba eleicha be'av he'anan ba'avur yishma ha'am bedabri imach vegam-becha ya'aminu le'olam vayaged Moshe et-divrei ha'am el-HASHEM.
"Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever." So Moshe told the words of the people to HASHEM.
And HASHEM said to Moshe,10 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe lech el-ha'am vekidashtam hayom umachar vechibesu simlotam.
Then HASHEM said to Moshe,
11 Vehayu nechonim layom hashlishi ki bayom hashlishi yered HASHEM le'einei chol-ha'am al-har Sinai.
And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day HASHEM will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
12 Vehigbalta et-ha'am saviv lemor hishamru lachem alot bahar unegoa bekatzehu kol-hanogea bahar mot yumat.
You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, 'Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
13 Lo-tiga bo yad ki-sakol yisakel o-yaroh yiyareh im-behemah im-ish lo yichyeh bimshoch hayovel hemah ya'alu vahar.
Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.' When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come near the mountain."
14 Vayered Moshe min-hahar el-ha'am vayekadesh et-ha'am vayechabsu simlotam.
So Moshe went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes.
15 Vayomer el-ha'am heyu nechonim lishloshet yamim al-tigshu el-ishah.
And he said to the people, "Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives."
16 Vayehi vayom hashlishi biheyot haboker vayehi kolot uvrakim ve'anan kaved al-hahar vekol shofar chazak me'od vayecherad kol-ha'am asher bamachaneh.
Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunder and lightning, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.
17 Vayotze Moshe et-ha'am likrat ha'Elokim min-hamachaneh vayityatzvu betachtit hahar.
And Moshe brought the people out of the camp to meet with G-d, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
18 Vehar Sinai ashan kulo mipenei asher yarad alav HASHEM ba'esh vaya'al ashano ke'eshen hakivshan vayecherad kol-hahar me'od.
Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because HASHEM descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
19 Vayehi kol hashofar holech vechazek me'od Moshe yedaber veha'Elokim ya'anenu vekol.
And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moshe spoke, and G-d answered him by voice.
Shishi
"I am HASHEM your G-d, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
20 Vayered HASHEM al-har Sinai el-rosh hahar vayikra HASHEM le-Moshe el-rosh hahar vaya'al Moshe.
Then HASHEM came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And HASHEM called Moshe to the top of the mountain, and Moshe went up.
21 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe red ha'ed ba'am pen-yehersu el-HASHEM lir'ot venafal mimenu rav.
And HASHEM said to Moshe, "Go down and warn the people, lest they break through to gaze at HASHEM, and many of them perish.
22 Vegam hakohanim hanigashim el-HASHEM yitkadashu pen-yifrotz bahem HASHEM.
Also let the priests who come near HASHEM consecrate themselves, lest HASHEM break out against them."
23 Vayomer Moshe el-HASHEM lo-yuchal ha'am la'alot el-har Sinai ki-atah ha'edotah banu lemor hagbel et-hahar vekidashto.
But Moshe said to HASHEM, "The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai; for You warned us, saying, 'Set bounds around the mountain and consecrate it.'"

So Moshe went down to the people and spoke to them..
The Ten Mitzvot
20:1 Vayedaber Elokim et kol-hadevarim ha'eleh lemor.
And G-d spoke all these words, saying:
2 Anochi HASHEM Elokeicha asher hotseticha me'eretz Mitzrayim mibeit avadim.
3 Lo yihyeh lecha elohim acherim al-panai.
You shall have no other god before Me.

You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
5 Lo-tishtachaveh lahem velo ta'ovdem ki anochi HASHEM Elokeicha El kana poked avon avot al-banim al-shileshim ve'al-ribe'im leson'ai.
you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, HASHEM your G-d, am a jealous G-d, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
6 Ve'oseh chesed la'alafim le'ohavaI uleshomreI mitzvotaI.
but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 Lo tisa et-shem-HASHEM Elokeicha lashav ki lo yenakeh HASHEM et asher-yisa et-shmo lashav.
You shall not take the name of HASHEM your G-d in vain, for HASHEM will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 Zachor et-yom haShabbat lekadsho.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Sheshet yamim ta'avod ve'asita chol-melachtecha.
Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

but the seventh day is the Sabbath of HASHEM your G-d. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11 Ki sheshet-yamim asah HASHEM et-hashamayim ve'et-ha'aretz et-hayam ve'et-kol-asher-bam vayanach bayom hashvi'i al-ken berach HASHEM et-yom haShabbat vayekadeshehu.
For in six days HASHEM made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore HASHEM blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
12 Kaved et-avicha ve'et-imecha lema'an ya'arichun yameycha al ha'adamah asher-HASHEM Elokeicha noten lach.
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which HASHEM your G-d is giving you.

You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

16 Vayomru el-Moshe daber-atah imanu venishma'ah ve'al-yedaber imanu Elokim pen-namut.
Then they said to Moshe, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not G-d speak with us, lest we die."

And Moshe said to the people, "Do not fear; for G-d has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin."
18 Vaya'amod ha'am merachok uMoshe nigash el-ha'arafel asher-sham ha'Elokim.
So the people stood afar off, but Moshe drew near the thick darkness where G-d was.

28 Veshalachti et-hatzir'ah lefaneicha vegereshah et-haChivi et-haKna'ani ve'et-haChiti milfaneicha.
And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Chivi, the Kna'ani, and the Chiti from before you.
29 Lo agarshenu mipaneicha beshanah echat pen-tihyeh ha'aretz shmamah verabah aleicha chayat hasadeh.
I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you.
30 Me'at me'at agarshenu mipaneicha ad asher tifreh venachalta et-ha'aretz.
Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.
31 Veshati et-gvulcha miYam-Suf ve'ad-yam Plishtim umimidbar ad-hanahar ki eten beyedchem et yoshvei ha'aretz vegerashtamo mipaneicha.
And I will set your bounds from the Reed Sea to the sea, Pelishtim, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.
32 Lo-tichrot lahem vele'eloheihem berit.
You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
33 Lo yeshvu be'artzecha pen-yachati'u otcha li ki ta'avod et-eloheihem ki yihyeh lecha lemokesh.
They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you."
