And HASHEM spoke to Moshe
after the death
of the two sons of Aharon, who brought an [unauthorized] offering before HASHEM
and they died.
2 Vayomer HASHEM el-Moshe daber
el-Aharon achicha ve'al-yavo vechol-et el-hakodesh mibeit laparochet el-penei
hakaporet asher al-ha'aron velo yamut ki be'anan era'eh al-hakaporet
HASHEM spoke to Moshe,
"Speak to your brother Aharon that
he not come at all times into the Holy [Sanctuary] that is inside the Curtain,
before the Ark-cover that is on the Ark so that he not die, for in a cloud I
shall appear on the Ark-cover.
3 Bezot yavo Aharon el-hakodesh
befar ben-bakar lechatat ve'ayil le'olah
With this shall Aharon come into
the Holy [Sanctuary]; with a young bullock, for a sin-offering and a ram, for a
burnt-offering.
4 Ketonet-bad kodesh yilbash
umichnesei-vad yiheyu al-besaro uve'avnet bad yachgor uvemitznefet bad yitznof
bigdei-kodesh hem verachatz bamayim et-besaro ulevesham
He shall don a sanctified, linen
tunic and linen pants shall be on his body. He shall gird himself with a
linen sash and place a linen turban on his head. These are sacred
garments; he shall bathe his body in water and clothe himself in them.
5 Ume'et adat benei Yisra'el yikach
shnei se'irei izim lechatat ve'ayil echad le'olah
He shall take, from the
congregation of the Children of Yisrael two he-goats for sin-offerings and one
ram for a burnt-offering.
6 Vehikriv Aharon et-par hachatat
asher-lo vechiper ba'ado uve'ad beyto
Aharon shall bring the
sin-offering bullock which is his and atone on his own behalf and on behalf of
his household.
7 Velakach et-shenei hase'irim
vehe'emid otam lifnei HASHEM petach Ohel Mo'ed
He shall take the two he-goats
and stand them before HASHEM, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
8 Venatan Aharon al-shnei hase'irim
goralot goral echad l'HASHEM vegoral echad la-Azazel
Aharon shall put lots on the two
he-goats; one lot [marked] 'for HASHEM' and one lot [marked] 'for Azazel.'
9 Vehikriv Aharon et-hasa'ir asher
alah alav hagoral l'HASHEM ve'asahu chatat
Aharon shall bring the goat upon
which the lot [marked] 'for HASHEM' came up and do [offer] it as a sin-offering.
10 Vehasa'ir asher alah alav hagoral
la-Azazel ya'omad-chai lifnei HASHEM lechaper alav leshalach oto la-Azazel
hamidbarah
The goat upon which came up the
lot [marked] 'for Azazel' shall be placed, alive, before HASHEM, to achieve
atonement with it to send it to Azazel, in the desert.
11 Vehikriv Aharon et-par hachatat
asher-lo vechiper ba'ado uve'ad beito veshachat et-par hachatat asher-lo
Aharon shall bring the
sin-offering bullock which is his and atone on his behalf and on behalf of his
household, and he shall slaughter his sin-offering bullock.
The Incense Service
12 Velakach melo-hamachtah
gachalei-esh me'al hamizbe'ach milifnei HASHEM umelo chofnav ktoret samim dakah
vehevi mibeit laparochet
He shall take a full hand shovel
of fiery coals from atop the altar, which is before HASHEM and full handfuls of
finely-ground incense and he shall bring [them] inside of the curtain.
13 Venatan et-haketoret al-ha'esh
lifnei HASHEM vechisah anan haktoret et-hakaporet asher al-ha'edut velo yamut
He shall put the incense on the
fire before HASHEM and the cloud of incense will cover the Ark-cover that is on
the [tablets of] Testimony, that he not die.
14 Velakach midam hapar vehizah
ve'etzba'o al-penei hakaporet kedmah velifnei hakaporet yazeh sheva-pe'amim min-hadam
be'etzba'o
He shall take some of the
bullock's blood and he shall sprinkle with his finger, above the surface of the
Ark-cover on its eastern part; and before the Ark-cover, he shall sprinkle, some
blood, with his finger, seven times.
15 Veshachat et-se'ir hachatat asher
la'am vehevi et-damo el-mibeit laparochet ve'asah et-damo ka'asher asah ledam
hapar vehizah oto al-hakaporet velifnei hakaporet
He shall slaughter the he-goat
sin-offering that belongs to the people, and he shall bring its blood inside of
the Curtain. He shall do [with] its blood just as he did with the
bullock's blood and he shall sprinkle it on the Ark-cover and before the
Ark-cover.
16 Vechiper al-hakodesh mitum'ot
benei Yisra'el umipish'eihem lechol-chatotam vechen ya'aseh le'Ohel Mo'ed
hashochen itam betoch tum'otam
He will atone for the Sanctuary,
from the impurities of the Children of Yisrael and from their rebellious sins
for all their transgressins. He shall do likewise for the Tent of Meeting,
that dwells with them in the midst of their impurity.
17 Vechol-adam lo-yihyeh be'Ohel
Mo'ed bevo'o lechaper bakodesh ad-tzeto vechiper ba'ado uve'ad beito uve'ad
kol-kehal Yisra'el
No man shall be present in the
Tent of Meeting when he comes in to atone for the Holy [Sanctuary] until he
leaves. He shall atone on his behalf and on behalf of his household and on
behalf of the entire assembly of Yisrael.
Sheni
18 Veyatza el-hamizbe'ach asher
lifnei-HASHEM vechiper alav velakach midam hapar umidam hasa'ir venatan al-karnot
hamizbe'ach saviv
He shall go out ot the Altar that
is before HASHEM and atone on it. He shall take some of the bullock's
blood and some of the he-goat's blood and put it atop the corners of the Altar,
all around.
19 Vehizah alav min-hadam be'etzba'o
sheva pe'amim vetiharo vekidsho mitum'ot benei Yisra'el
He shall sprinkle on it from the
blood that is on his finger seven times and purify it and sanctify it from the
impurities of the Children Yisrael
The He-Goat to Azazel
20 Vechilah mikaper et-hakodesh
ve'et-Ohel Mo'ed ve'et-hamizbe'ach vehikriv et-hasa'ir hechai
When he finishes atoning for the
Holy [Santuary] and [for] the Tent of Meeting and [for] the Altar he shall bring
the live he-goats.
21 Vesamach Aharon et-shtei yadav
al-rosh hasa'ir hachai vehitvadah alav et-kol-avonot benei Yisra'el
ve'et-kol-pish'eihem lechol-chatotam venatan otam al-rosh hasa'ir veshilach
beyad-ish iti hamidbarah
Aharon shall lay his two hands on
the head of the live he-goat and confess on it all the iniquities of the
Children of Yisrael and all their rebellious transgressions for all their sins,
and put them on the head of the goat and send it away with the man [so]
designated, to the desert.
22 Venasa hasa'ir alav et-kol-avonotam
el-eretz gezerah veshilach et-hasa'ir bamidbar
The goat shall carry upon itself
all of their iniquities to a desolate land, and [the man shall] send the goat
into the desert.
23 Uva Aharon el-Ohel Mo'ed ufashat
et-bigdei habad asher lavash bevo'o el-hakodesh vehinicham sham
Aharon will [then] come into the
Tent of Meeting and remove the linen garments that he wore when he came into the
Holy [Sanctuary] and place them there.
24 Verachatz et-besaro vamayim
bemakom kadosh velavash et-begadav veyatza ve'asah et-olato ve'et-olat ha'am
vechiper ba'ado uve'ad ha'am
He shall wash his flesh in water
in a sacred place and don his garments. He shall go out and do [offer] his
burnt-offering and the people's burnt-offering and atone on his behalf and on
behalf of the people.
Shelishi (Sheni when combined)
25 Ve'et chelev hachatat yaktir
hamizbechah
The fat of the sin-offering, he
shall burn on the altar.
26 Vehameshale'ach et-hasa'ir la-Azazel
yechabes begadav verachatz et-besaro bamayim ve'acharei-chen yavo el-hamachaneh
He who sends the goat to Azazel
shall wash his garments, and bathe his body in water, and afterwards he shall
come into the encampment.
27 Ve'et par hachatat ve'et se'ir
hachatat asher huva et-damam lechaper bakodesh yotzi el-michutz lamachaneh
vesarfu va'esh et-orotam ve'et-besaram ve'et-pirsham
The sin-offering bullock and the
sin-offering goat whose blood was brought to achieve atonement in the Holy
[Sanctuary], he shall have removed beyond the encampment. They shall burn
in fire their skins, their flesh and their waste [that are in their intestines].
28 Vehashoref otam yechabes begadav
verachatz et-besaro bamayim ve'acharei-chen yavo el-hamachaneh
He who burns them shall wash his
garments and bathe his body in water and afterwards he shall come into the
encampment.
The Eternal Mitzvah of Yom Kippur
29 Vehayetah lachem lechukat olam
bachodesh hashvi'i be'asor lachodesh te'anu et-nafshoteichem vechol-melachah lo
ta'asu ha'ezrach vehager hagar betochechem
It shall be for an everlasting
statute for you; in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, you shall
afflict yourselves and not do any work, the native-born and the proselyte
residing among you.
30 Ki-vayom hazeh yechaper aleichem
letaher etchem mikol chatoteichem lifnei HASHEM titharu
For on this day He will make
atonement for you, to purify you from all your sins, before HASHEM, you will be
purified.
31 Shabbat Shabbaton hi lachem
ve'initem et-nafshoteichem chukat olam
It is a Shabbat of Shabbatot to
you and you must afflict yourselves; it is an everlasting statute.
32 Vechiper hakohen asher-yimshach
oto va'asher yemale et-yado lechahen tachat aviv velavash et-bigdei habad bigdei
hakodesh
The Kohen will atone - he who
himself will be anointed nd who will be initiated - to serve in his fathers
stead and dress in the linen garments, the sacred garments.
33 Vechiper et-mikdash hakodesh
ve'et-Ohel Mo'ed ve'et-hamizbe'ach yechaper ve'al hakohanim ve'al-kol-am hakahal
yechaper
He will atone for the Holy
[Sanctuary]; and for the Tent of Meeting and for the Altar, he will atone; for
the Kohanim and for the entire people of the congregation he will atone.
34 Vehayetah-zot lachem lechukat
olam lechaper al-benei Yisra'el mikol-chatotam achat bashanah vaya'as ka'asher
tzivah HASHEM et-Moshe
This shall be for you as an
everlasting statue, to achieve atonement for the Children of Yisrael from all
their sins, once a year."
He did as HASHEM commanded Moshe.

Service Outside the Mishkan
17:1
Vayedaber HASHEM el-Moshe lemor
HASHEM spoke to Moshe, Saying,
2 Daber el-Aharon ve'el-banav ve'el
kol-benei Yisra'el ve'amarta alehem zeh hadavar asher-tzivah HASHEM lemor
"Speak to Aharon and to his sons
and to all the Children of Yisrael and say to them, This is the edict that
HASHEM commanded, saying,
3 Ish ish mibeit Yisra'el asher
yishchat shor o-chesev o-ez bamachaneh o asher yishchat michutz lamachaneh
Each and every person of the
House of Yisrael who will slaughter an ox, lamb, or goat within the encampment
or who will slaughter [it] beyond the encampment.
4 Ve'el-petach Ohel Mo'ed lo hevi'o
lehakriv korban l'HASHEM lifnei Mishkan HASHEM dam yechashev la'ish hahu dam
shafach venichrat ha'ish hahu mikerev amo
And to the entrance of the Tent
of Meeting he did not bring it so that it may be brought as an offering to
HASHEM, before the Mishkan of HASHEM; it shall be considered for that person as
blood, he has spilled blood, and that person shall be cut off from among his
people.
5 Lema'an asher yavi'u benei
Yisra'el et-zivcheihem asher hem zovechim al-penei hasadeh vehevi'um l'HASHEM
el-petach Ohel Mo'ed el-hakohen vezavechu zivchei shlamim l'HASHEM otam
So that the Children of Yisrael
shall bring their sacrifices that they [would] slaughter on the field, and
[instead] they shall bring them to HASHEM to the entrance of the Tent of
Meeting, to the Kohen, and slaughter them as peace-offerings to HASHEM.
6 Vezarak hakohen et-hadam al-mizbach
HASHEM petach Ohel Mo'ed vehiktir hachelev lere'ach nichoach l'HASHEM
The Kohen shall sprinkle the
blood on the Altar of HASHEM at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and burn the
fat as a pleasing fragrance to HASHEM.
7 Velo-yizbechu od et-zivcheihem
lase'irim asher hem zonim achareihem chukat olam tihyeh-zot lahem ledorotam
They shall no longer slaughter
their sacrifices to the demons after which they go astray. This shall be
an everlasting statute for them, for their descendants.

8 Va'alehem tomar ish ish mibeit
Yisra'el umin-hager asher-yagur betocham asher-ya'aleh olah o-zavach
To them you shall say, Each and
every person of the House of Yisrael and from the proselyte who will reside
among them, who will bring a burnt-offering or sacrifice,
9 Ve'el-petach Ohel Mo'ed lo
yevi'enu la'asot oto l'HASHEM venichrat ha'ish hahu me'amav
and to the entrance of the Tent
of Meeting he does not bring it, that it be offered to HASHEM; that person shall
be cut off from his people.
Prohibition Against Eating Blood
10 Ve'ish ish mibeit Yisra'el
umin-hager hagar betocham asher yochal kol-dam venatati fanai banefesh
ha'ochelet et-hadam vehichrati otah mikerev amah
Each and every person of the
House of Yisrael and from the proselyte who resides among them who will eat any
blood; I shall direct my anger on the soul of him who eats the blood and I will
cut it off from among its people.
11 Ki-nefesh habasar badam hi va'ani
netativ lachem al-hamizbe'ach lechaper al-nafshoteichem ki-hadam hu banefesh
yechaper
For [the] soul of the body is in
the blood and I have given it to you [to be placed] on the Altar to achieve
atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that will achieve atonement for
the soul.
12 Al-ken amarti livnei Yisra'el
kol-nefesh mikem lo-tochal dam vehager hagar betochechem lo-yochal dam
Therefore, I have said to the
Children of Yisrael, 'Every soul among you shall not eat blood. The
proselyte residing among you shall not eat blood.'
Covering Blood
13 Ve'ish ish mibenei Yisra'el
umin-hager hagar betocham asher yatzud tze'id chayah o-of asher ye'achel
veshafach et-damo vechisahu be'afar
Each and every person of the
House of Yisrael and from the proselyte residing among them who will ensnare
[the catch] any wild animal or fowl that is permitted to be eaten, he shall
spill its blood and cover it with earth.
14 Ki-nefesh kol-basar damo venafsho
hu va'omar livnei Yisra'el dam kol-basar lo tochelu ki nefesh kol-basar damo hi
kol-ochlav yikaret
For [as to] the life of all
flesh, its blood is its life, and I have said to the Children of Yisrael, 'The
blood of any flesh, you should not eat, for, the life of all flesh is its blood.
Whoever eats of it, shall be cut off.'
15 Vechol-nefesh asher tochal
nevelah utrefah ba'ezrach uvager vechibes begadav verachatz bamayim vetame ad-ha'erev
vetaher
Anybody that will eat an
improperly slaughtered animal or an animal with a fatal defect among the
native-born and the proselyte, shall wash his clothing and bathe in water and is
impure until the evening, and [then] becomes purified.
16 Ve'im lo yechabes uvesaro lo
yirchatz venasa avono
If he does not wash [his clothes]
and does not bathe his flesh, he bears [the burden of] his iniquity."
Forbidden Practices
18:1
Vayedaber HASHEM el-Moshe lemor
HASHEM spoke to Moshe, saying,
2 Daber el-benei Yisra'el ve'amarta
alehem ani HASHEM Elokeichem
Speak to the Children of Yisrael
and say to them I am HASHEM, your G-d.
3 Kema'aseh eretz-Mitzrayim asher
yeshavtem-bah lo ta'asu uchema'aseh eretz-Kena'an asher ani mevi etchem shamah
lo ta'asu uvechukoteihem lo telechu
After the practice of the Land of
Egypt in which you have lived, you shall not do, and the practice of the Land of
Kenaan, to which I am bringing you, you shall not do and you shall not follow
their statutes [customs].
4 Et-mishpatai ta'asu ve'et-chukotai
tishmeru lalechet bahem ani HASHEM Elokeichem
You shall fulfill My laws and you
shall keep My statutes to follow them, I am HASHEM, your G-d.
5 Ushmartem et-chukotai
ve'et-mishpatai asher ya'aseh otam ha'adam vachai bahem ani HASHEM
You shall keep My statutes and My
laws which if a man obeys he shall live through them; I am HASHEM.

6 Ish ish el-kol-sher besaro lo
tikrevu legalot ervah ani HASHEM
Each and every person - to any of
his close kin - You shall not approach to uncover [their] nakedness, I am
HASHEM.
7 Ervat avicha ve'ervat imecha lo
tegaleh imecha hi lo tegaleh ervatah
The nakedness of your father and
the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover; she is your mother, you
shall not uncover her nakedness.
8 Ervat eshet-avicha lo tegaleh
ervat avicha hi
The nakedness of your father's
wife you shall not uncover; it is your father's nakedness.
9 Ervat achotcha vat-avicha o vat-imecha
moledet bayit o moledet chutz lo tegaleh ervatan
The nakedness of your sister
[whether she is] your father's daughter or your mother's daughter; whether she
is born in the house, or she is born outside, you shall not uncover their
nakedness.
10 Ervat bat-bincha o vat-bitcha lo
tegaleh ervatan ki ervatcha henah
The nakedness of your son's
daughter or your daughter's daughter; you shall not uncover their nakedness, for
their nakedness is your own.
11 Ervat bat-eshet avicha moledet
avicha achotcha hi lo tegaleh ervatah
The nakedness of the daughter of
your father's wife who is born to your father; she is your sister, you shall not
uncover her nakedness.
12 Ervat achot-avicha lo tegaleh
sher avicha hi
The nakedness of your father's
sister you shall not uncover; she is your father's kin.
13 Ervat achot-imcha lo tegaleh
ki-sher imecha hi
The nakedness of your mother's
sister you shall not uncover, for she is your mother's kin.
14 Ervat achi-avicha lo tegaleh el-ishto
lo tikrav dodatcha hi
The nakedness of your father's
brother you shall not uncover. You shall not approach his wife, she is
your aunt.
15 Ervat kalatcha lo tegaleh eshet
bincha hi lo tegaleh ervatah
The nakedness of your
daughter-in-law you shall not uncover; she is your son's wife, you shall not
uncover her nakedness.
16 Ervat eshet-achicha lo tegaleh
ervat achicha hi
The nakedness of your brother's
wife you shall not uncover; it is your brother's nakedness.
17 Ervat ishah uvitah lo tegaleh
et-bat-benah ve'et-bat-bitah lo tikach legalot ervatah sha'arah henah zimah hi
The nakedness of a woman and her
daughter you shall not uncover. The daughter of her son and the daughter
of her daughter you shall not take to un cover her nakedness, they are kin; it
is lewdness.
18 Ve'ishah el-achotah lo tikach
litzror legalot ervatah aleiha bechayeiha
You shall not take a woman and
her sister, as [her] rival to uncover her nakedness with the other, in her
lifetime.
19 Ve'el-ishah benidat tum'atah lo
tikrav legalot ervatah
To a woman while in her menstrual
impurity, you shall not approach to uncover her nakedness.
20 Ve'el-eshet amitecha lo-titen
shchovtecha lezara letom'ah-vah
With your friend's wife you shall
not lie carnally, to defile yourself through her.

21 Umizar'acha lo-titen leha'avir
lamolech velo techalel et-shem Elokeicha ani HASHEM
You shall not hand over any of
your children to be passed through [the worship of[ Molech and you shall not
defile the Name of your G-d, I am HASHEM.
22 Ve'et zachar lo tishkav mishkevei
ishah to'evah hi
You shall not lie with a male
[conjugally] as one lies with a woman; it is an abomination.
23 Uvechol-behemah lo-titen
shchovtecha letom'ah-vah ve'ishah lo ta'amod lifnei vehemah leriv'ah tevel hu
Together with any animal you shal
lnot lie [conjugally] to defile yourself with it. A woman shall not stand
before an animal to copulate with it; it is defilement.
Holiness of the Land
24 Al-titam'u bechol-eleh ki
vechol-eleh nitme'u hagoyim asher-ani meshale'ach mipneichem
Do not defile yourselves in any
one of these [ways], for in all of these [ways] the nations have become defiled
[those] that I am driving away from before you.
25 Vatitma ha'aretz va'efkod avonah
aleiha vataki ha'aretz et-yoshveiha
The land became defiled and I
judged its iniquities upon it and the land expelled its inhabitants.
26 Ushmartem atem et-chukotai
ve'et-mishpatai velo ta'asu mikol hato'evot ha'eleh ha'ezrach vehager hagar
betochechem
You shall adhere to My statutes
and to My laws and not do any of these abominations [both] the native born and
the proselyte who resides among you.
27 Ki et-kol-hato'evot ha'kEl asu
anshei-ha'aretz asher lifneichem vatitma ha'aretz
For all of these abominations
were done by the people of the land who came before you and the land became
defiled.
Maftir
28 Velo taki ha'aretz etchem
betama'achem otah ka'asher ka'ah et-hagoi asher lifneichem
[So that] the land not expell you
when you defile it as it expelled the nation before you.
29 Ki kol-asher ya'aseh mikol
hato'evot ha'eleh venichretu hanefashot ha'osot mikerev amam
For anyone who will do any of
these abominations, their souls shall be cut off, those who do these things,
from among their people.
30 Ushmartem et-mishmarti levilti
asot mechukot hato'evot asher na'asu lifneichem velo titame'u bahem ani HASHEM
Elokeichem
You shall keep My watch that you
shall not do any of hte abominable customs that were done before you and you
will not defile yourselves through them. I am HASHEM, your G-d."
