VaYikra 12:1 - 13:59 Parashat
Vayedaber HASHEM el-Moshe lemor
Hashem spoke to Moshe saying,
2 Daber el-benei Yisra'el lemor
ishah ki tazria veyaldah zachar vetame'ah shiv'at yamim kimei nidat devotah
"Speak to the Children of Yisrael, saying, When a woman conceives and gives birth to a male child she will be ritually unclean for seven days; as the days of her menstrual flow, she will be unclean.
3 Uvayom hashmini yimol besar orlato
On the eighth day, the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.
4 Ushloshim yom ushloshet yamim
teshev bidmei tahorah bechol-kodesh lo-tiga ve'el-hamikdash lo tavo ad-mel'ot
For thirty-three days she will remain [in the status] that the blood [she sees] is ritually pure. She shall not touch anything holy and she shall not come into the Sanctuary, until the days of her purity are completed.
5 Ve'im-nekevah teled vetam'ah
shvu'ayim kenidatah veshishim yom vesheshet yamim teshev al-demei tahorah
If she gives birth to a female she will be unclean for two weeks as during her mensturation. For sixty-six days she will remain [in the status] that the blood [she sees] is ritually pure.
6 Uvimlot yemei tahorah leven o
levat tavi keves ben-shnato le'olah uven-yonah o-tor lechatat el-petach
When the days of her purification are completed, be it for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb, in its first year, as a burnt-offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove as a sin-offering, to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, to the Kohen.
7 Vehikrivo lifnei HASHEM vechiper
aleiha vetaharah mimekor dameiha zot torat hayoledet lazachar o lanekevah
He will bring it before HASHEM and atone for her and she will be cleansed from the source of her blood; this is the Torah regarding the woman who gives birth to a male or to a female.
8 Ve'im-lo timtza yadah dei seh
velakechah shtei-torim o shnei bnei yonah echad le'olah ve'echad lechatat
vechiper aleiha hakohen vetaherah
If she cannot afford [to acquire] a lamb she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons; one as a burnt-offering and one as a sin-offering. The Kohen will atone for her and she will be cleansed."
Tzaraat and the Procedure for Verification
Vayedaber HASHEM el-Moshe ve'el-Aharon
HASHEM spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying,
2 Adam ki-yihyeh ve'or-besaro set o-sapachat
o vaheret vehayah ve'or-besaro lenega tzara'at vehuva el-Aharon hakohen o el-achad
When a person will have, in the skin of his flesh a spot of intense whiteness or an off-white spot, or a snow-white spot, and it forms on the skin of his body [like] the plague of tzara'at, he shall be brought to Aharon, the Kohen, or to one of his sons, the Kohanim.
3 Vera'ah hakohen et-hanega
be'or-habasar vese'ar banega hafach lavan umar'eh hanega amok me'or besaro nega
tzara'at hu vera'ahu hakohen vetime oto
The Kohen shall see the plague in the skin of the flesh and [if] the hair in the skin-eruption has turned white and the appearance of the plague is deeper than the skin of his body, it is the skin-eruption of tzara'at. The Kohen shall see it and declare him [to be] unclean.
4 Ve'im-baheret levanah hi be'or
besaro ve'amok eyn-mar'eha min-ha'or use'arah lo-hafach lavan vehisgir hakohen
et-hanega shiv'at yamim
If it is a snow-white spot in the skin of the flesh and it does not appear deeper than the skin and the hair did not turn white, the Kohen shall confine the plague for seven days.
5 Vera'ahu hakohen bayom hashvi'i
vehineh hanega amad be'einav lo-fasah hanega ba'or vehisgiro hakohen shiv'at
The Kohen shall see him on the seventh day and behold! [If] the skin-eruption has maintained its hue; the skin-eruption did not spread in the skin. The Kohen shall confine him for seven days, a second time.
6 Vera'ah hakohen oto bayom hashvi'i
shenit vehineh kehah hanega velo fasah hanega ba'or vetiharo hakohen mispachat
hi vechibes begadav vetaher
The Kohen shall see him on the seventh day for the second time and behold! [If] the skin-eruption became dimmer and the skin-eruption did not spread in the skin, the Kohen shall declare him [to be] clean; it is [merely] a white discoloration. He shall wash his garments and he will be cleansed.
7 Ve'im-pasoh tifseh hamispachat
ba'or acharei hera'oto el-hakohen letaharato venir'ah shenit el-hakohen
If the white discoloration has spread in the skin after it was shown to the Kohen, who pronounced that it was clean, it must be shown a second time to the Kohen.
8 Vera'ah hakohen vehineh pastah
hamispachat ba'or vetim'o hakohen tzara'at hi
The Kohen shall see and behold! [If] the white discoloration has spread in the skin, the Kohen shall declare him unclean, it is tzara'at.
9 Nega tzara'at ki tihyeh be'adam
When there is a skin-eruption of tzara'at on a person he shall be brought to the Kohen.
10 Vera'ah hakohen vehineh set-levanah
ba'or vehi hafchah se'ar lavan umicheyat basar chai bas'et
The Kohen shall see and behold! There is an intensely white spot on the skin and it has turned the hair white or there is healthy flesh in the spot of the intense whiteness,
11 Tzara'at noshenet hi be'or besaro
vetim'o hakohen lo yasgirenu ki tame hu
it is an old tzara'at in the skin of his body and the Kohen shall declare him unclean he shall not confine him, since he is [obviously] unclean.
12 Ve'im-paroach tifrach hatzara'at
ba'or vechisetah hatzara'at et kol-or hanega merosho ve'ad-raglav lechol-mar'eh
And if the tzara'at sprouts on the skin and if the tzara'at covered the entire skin of the [one affected by] the eruption from his head until his feet to the extent that the Kohen can see.
13 Vera'ah hakohen vehineh chisetah
hatzara'at et-kol-besaro vetihar et-hanaga kulo hafach lavan tahor hu
The Kohen shall see and behold! The tzara'at has covered all of his body, he shall declare the skin-eruption to be cleansed, it has turned completely white, he is clean.
14 Uveyom hera'ot bo basar chai
On the day that healthy flesh appears on him, he will become unclean.
15 Vera'ah hakohen et-habasar hachai
vetim'o habasar hachai tame hu tzara'at hu
The Kohen shall see the healthy flesh and declare him unclean. The healthy flesh is unclean, it is tzara'at.
16 O chi yashuv habasar hachai
venehpach lelavan uva el-hakohen
Or, if he the healthy flesh turns again and it was changed to white, he shall come to the Kohen.
17 Vera'ahu hakohen vehineh nehepach
hanega lelavan vetihar hakohen et-hanega tahor hu
The Kohen shall see him, and behold! The skin-eruption has turned white; the Kohen shall declare the skin-eruption to be clean, he is clean.
18 Uvasar ki-yihyeh vo-ve'oro
When a person has on his skin an inflammation that has healed.
19 Vehayah bimekom hashchin set
levanah o vaheret levanah adamdamet venir'ah el-hakohen
If there was on the area of the inflammation a spot of intense whiteness or a snow-white spot tinged with red it shall be shown to the Kohen.
20 Vera'ah hakohen vehineh mar'eha
shafal min-ha'or use'arah hafach lavan vetime'o hakohen nega-tzara'at hi
The Kohen shall see it and behold! Its appearance is lower than the skin, and its hair has turned white, the Kohen shall declare him unclean; it is the skin-eruption of tzara'at that has sprouted through the inflammation.
21 Ve'im yir'enah hakohen vehineh
ein-bah se'ar lavan ushefalah einenah min-ha'or vehi chehah vehisgiro hakohen
If the Kohen looks at it and behold! There is no white hair in it, and it is not lower than the skin and it is faint, the Kohen shall confine him for seven days.
22 Ve'im-pasoh tifseh ba'or vetime
hakohen oto nega hi
If it spread in the skin, the Kohen shall declare him unclean, it is a skin eruption.
23 Ve'im-tachteiha ta'amod habaheret
lo fasatah tzarevet hashchin hi vetiharo hakohen
If the snow-white spot remains in its place and it did not spread, it is [merely] a scar of the inflammation and the Kohen shall declare him clean.
24 O vasar ki-yihyeh ve'oro
michvat-esh vehayetah michyat hamichvah baheret levanah adamdemet o levanah
When a person has on his skin a burn from a fire and [on] the healthy flesh of the burnt part, came a snow-white spot tinged with red or pure white spot.
25 Vera'ah otah hakohen vehineh
nehepach se'ar lavan babaheret umar'eha amok min-ha'or tzara'at hi bamichvah
parachah vetime oto hakohen nega tzara'at hi
The Kohen shall see it and behold! The hair has turned white in the snow-white spot and its appearance is deeper than the skin; it is tzara'at that has sprouted in the burn. The Kohen shall declare him unclean, it is the skin-eruption of tzara'at.
26 Ve'im yir'enah hakohen vehineh
ein-babaheret se'ar lavan ushfalah einenah min-ha'or vehi chehah vehisgiro
hakohen shiv'at yamim
If the Kohen shall see it, and behold! There is not, in the snow-white spot, any white hair and it is not lower than the skin, and it is faint. The Kohen shall confine him for seven days.
27 Vera'ahu hakohen bayom hashvi'i
im-pasoh tifseh ba'or vetime hakohen oto nega tzara'at hi
The Kohen shall see him on the seventh day. If it has spread in the skin, the Kohen shall declare him unclean, it is the skin-eruption of tzara'at.
28 Ve'im-tachteiha ta'amod habaheret
lo-fastah va'or vehi chehah se'et hamichvah hi vetiharo hakohen ki-tzarevet
If the snow-white spot remains in its place and it did not spread in the skin and it is faint, it is the white spot of the burn. The Kohen shall declare him clean for it is [merely] the scar of the burn.
29 Ve'ish o ishah ki-yihyeh vo naga
berosh o vezakan
If a man or a woman will have a skin-eruption on the head or in the beard.
30 Vera'ah hakohen et-hanega vehineh
mar'ehu amok min-ha'or uvo se'ar tzahov dak vetime oto hakohen netek hu tzara'at
harosh o hazakan hu
The Kohen shall see the skin-eruption, and behold! Its appearance is deeper than the skin and there is thin golden hair in it. The Kohen shall pronounce it unclean, it is a netek, it is tzara'at of the head or the beard.
31 Vechi-yir'eh hakohen et-nega
hanetek vehineh ein-mar'ehu amok min-ha'or vese'ar shachor ein bo vehisgir
hakohen et-nega hanetek shiv'at yamim
When the Kohen will see the skin-eruption of netek - and behold! It does not appear deeper than the skin and there is no black hair in it, the Kohen shall confine [the one affected by] the skin-eruption of the netek for seven days.
32 Vera'ah hakohen et-hanega bayom
hashvi'i vehineh lo-fasah hanetek velo-hayah vo se'ar tzahov umar'eh hanetek ein
The Kohen shall see the skin-eruption on the seventh day, and behold! The netek did not spread and there was no golden hair in it and the appearance of the netek is not deeper than the skin.
33 Vehitgalach ve'et-hanetek lo
yegale'ach vehisgir hakohen et-hanetek shiv'at yamim shenit
He shall be shaved but he shall not shave the netek, and the Kohen shall confine the netek for a second seven day period.
34 Vera'ah hakohen et-hanetek bayom
hashvi'i vehineh lo-fasah hanetek ba'or umar'ehu einenu amok min-ha'or vetihar
oto hakohen vechibes begadav vetaher
The Kohen shall see the netek on the seventh day and behold! If the netek did not spread in the skin and its appearance is not deeper than the skin. The Kohen shall declare him clean. He shall wash his garments and he will be clean.
35 Ve'im-pasoh yifseh hanetek ba'or
If the nesek spreads [extensively] in the skin after he is pronounced clean,
Vera'ahu hakohen vehineh pasah hanetek
ba'or lo-yevaker hakohen lase'ar hatzahov tame hu
the Kohen shall see him and behold! the nesek has spread in the skin. The Kohen shall not [even] look for golden hair, he is unclean.
37 Ve'im-be'einav amad hanetek vese'ar shachor
tzamach-bo nirpa hanetek tahor hu vetiharo hakohen
If the nesek remained the same as it was and black hair grew in it, the nesek is healed, he is clean, and the Kohen shall declare him clean.
38 Ve'ish o-ishah ki-yihyeh ve'or-besaram beharot
When a man or a woman have in the skin of their flesh white spots,
39 Vera'ah hakohen vehineh ve'or-besaram beharot
kehot levanot bohak hu parach ba'or tahor hu
the Kohen shall see, and behold! in the skin of their flesh are dim white spots, it is [merely] scurf that has sprouted in the skin; it is clean.
Shishi (Shelishi when combined)
40 Ve'ish ki yimaret rosho kere'ach
hu tahor hu
If a man's hair falls out, he is [merely] bald; he is clean.
41 Ve'im mip'at panav yimaret rosho
gibe'ach hu tahor hu
If, on the front of his head his hair falls out, he is [merely] frontally bald; he is clean.
42 Vechi-yihyeh vakarachat o
vagabachat nega lavan adamdam tzara'at porachat hi bekarachto o vegabachto
If there will be, in the baldness in back of the head or in the baldness in front of the head a white skin-eruption, tinged with red, it is tzara'at sprouting in his frontal baldness or in his posterior baldness.
43 Vera'ah oto hakohen vehineh set-hanega
levanah adamdemet bekarachto o vegabachto kemar'eh tzara'at or basar
The Kohen shall see him, and behold! the spot of intense whiteness is tinged with red in his frontal baldness or in his posterior baldness just as the appearance tzara'at of the skin of the flesh.
44 Ish-tzarua hu tame hu tame
yetam'enu hakohen berosho nig'o
He is a person with tzara'at, he is unclean. The Kohen shall declare him unclean; his skin-eruption is on his head.
45 Vehatzarua asher-bo hanega
begadav yihyu frumim verosho yihyeh farua ve'al-safam yateh vetame tame yikra
The tzarua [the person] who has the skin-eruption of tzara'at - his garments shall have a tear in them, his hair shall be grown long, and he must cover his head down to his upper lip, and 'Unclean, unclean,' shall he call out.
46 Kol-yemei asher hanega bo yitma
tame hu badad yeshev michutz lamachaneh moshavo
All the days in which the skin-eruption is on him he shall be unclean; he is unclean. He shall dwell alone; his dwelling shall be beyond the encampment.
Affliction of Garments
47 Vehabeged ki-yihyeh vo nega
tzara'at beveged tzemer o beveged pishtim
When in a garment there is a skin-eruption of tzara'at, whether a woolen garment or in a linen garment.
48 O vishti o ve'erev lapishtim
velatzamer o ve'or o bechol-melechet or
Or if it is the warp [lengthwise] threads, or in the woof [widthwise] threads, in a linen garment, or a woolen garment, or on leather or in any object made of leather.
49 Vehayah hanega yerakrak o adamdam
babeged o va'or o-vashti o-va'erev o vechol-kli-or nega tzara'at hu vehor'ah et-hakohen
If the plague is deep green or deep red, in the garment, or in the leather hide or in the warp threads, or in the woof threads, or if it is in any object made of leather; it is the eruption of tzara'at and it shall be shown to the Kohen.
50 Vera'ah hakohen et-hanaga
vehisgir et-hanega shiv'at yamim
The Kohen shall see the plague and confine the eruption, for seven days.
51 Vera'ah et-hanega bayom hashvi'i
ki-fasah hanega babeged o-vashti o-va'erev o va'or lechol asher-ye'aseh ha'or
limelachah tzara'at mam'eret hanega tame hu
He shall see the eruption on the seventh day. If the eruption has spread in the garment or in the warp thread, or in the woof thread, or in the leather hide, or in the work made of leather, it is a prickly tzara'at, it is unclean.
52 Vesaraf et-habeged o et-hashti o
et-ha'erev batzemer o vapishtim o et-kol-kli ha'or asher-yihyeh vo hanaga
ki-tzara'at mam'eret hi ba'esh tisaref
He shall burn the garment, or the warp threads, or the woof threads, be it in wool or in linen, or in all leather made objects, in which there is the eruption. For it is a prickly tzara'at. It shall be burned in fire.
53 Ve'im yir'eh hakohen vehineh lo-fasah
hanega babeged o vashti o va'erev o bechol-keli-or
If the Kohen will see, and behold! the eruption did not spread in the garment, or in the warp threads, or in the woof threads, or in any leather made object.
54 Vetzivah hakohen vechibesu et
asher-bo hanaga vehisgiro shiv'at-yamim shenit
The Kohen shall command that they shall wash the article having the eruption, and confine it for seven days, a second time.
Shevi'i (Revi'i when combined)
55 Vera'ah hakohen acharei hukabes
et-hanega vehineh lo-hafach hanega et-eino vehanega lo-fasah tame hu ba'esh
tisrefenu pechetet hi bekarachto o vegabachto
The Kohen shall see it after the eruption was washed and behold! [even if] the eruption did not change its hue and the eruption did not spread; it is unclean, you shall burn it in fire. it is a deep mark be it in a worn [garment] or in a new [garment].
56 Ve'im ra'ah hakohen vehineh kehah
hanega acharei hukabes oto vekara oto min-habeged o min-ha'or o min-hashti o
If the Kohen saw and behold! the eruption grew faint after it was washed; he shall tear it from the garment, or from the leather, or from the warp threads, or form the woof threads.
57 Ve'im-tera'eh od babeged o-vashti
o-va'erev o vechol-kli-or porachat hi ba'esh tisrefenu et asher-bo hanaga
If it will appear again, in the garment or in the warp threads, or in the woof threads, or in any leather-made object, it is a recurrent outbreak of tzara'at. You shall burn the article having the eruption in fire.
58 Vehabeged o-hashti o-ha'erev o-chol-kli
ha'or asher techabes vesar mehem hanaga vechubas shenit vetaher
The garment, or the warp threads, or the woof threads, or any leather objects that were washed and the eruption disappears from the, it shall be washed a second time and it shall be purified.
59 Zot torat nega-tzara'at beged
hatzemer o hapishtim o hashti o ha'erev o kol-keli-or letaharo o letam'o
This is the Torah of the eruption of tzara'at be it in a woolen garment, or a linen garment, or in the warp tread, or in the woof thread, or in any leather-made object, that it be pronounced pure, or that it be pronounced impure."
