Bereishit Chapter 6
א וַיְהִי כִּי-הֵחֵל הָאָדָם לָרֹב עַל-פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה וּבָנוֹת יֻלְּדוּ לָהֶם
Vayehi ki-hechel ha'adam larov al-penei ha'adamah uvanot yuledu lahem.
1. Now this happened when man began to increase on the face of the earth: Daughters were born to them.
ב וַיִּרְאוּ בְנֵי-הָאֱלֹהִים אֶת-בְּנוֹת הָאָדָם כִּי טֹבֹת הֵנָּה וַיִּקְחוּ לָהֶם נָשִׁים מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר בָּחָרוּ
Vayir'u benei ha'Elokim et-benot ha'adam ki tovot henah vayikchu lahem nashim mikol asher bacharu.
2. The sons of the leaders saw that the daughters of man were good, and they took for themselves wives from whomever they chose.
ג וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה לֹא-יָדוֹן רוּחִי בָאָדָם לְעֹלָם בְּשַׁגַּם הוּא בָשָׂר וְהָיוּ יָמָיו מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה
Vayomer HASHEM lo-yadon ruchi va'adam le'olam beshagam hu vasar vehayu yamav me'ah ve'esrim shanah.
3. HASHEM said, "My spirit shall not arbitrate in man forever, since he is but flesh, and his days shall be 120 years.".
ד הַנְּפִלִים הָיוּ בָאָרֶץ בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם, וְגַם אַחֲרֵי-כֵן אֲשֶׁר יָבֹאוּ בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים אֶל-בְּנוֹת הָאָדָם וְיָלְדוּ לָהֶם הֵמָּה הַגִּבֹּרִים אֲשֶׁר מֵעוֹלָם אַנְשֵׁי הַשֵּׁם
Hanefilim hayu va'aretz bayamim hahem vegam acharei-chen asher yavo'u benei ha'Elokim el-benot ha'adam veyaledu lahem hemah hagiborim asher me'olam anshei hashem.
4. The titans were in the earth in those days, and also later, since the sons of the leaders came to the daughters of man, and they fathered them. These were the mightiest ones who ever were, men of name.
ה וַיַּרְא יְהוָה כִּי רַבָּה רָעַת הָאָדָם בָּאָרֶץ וְכָל-יֵצֶר מַחְשְׁבֹת לִבּוֹ רַק רַע כָּל-הַיּוֹם
Vayar HASHEM ki rabah ra'at ha'adam ba'aretz vechol-yetzer machshevot libo rak ra kol-hayom.
5. HASHEM saw that man's wickedness in the earth had increased, and that every urge of his heart's thought was only evil, all day long.
ו וַיִּנָּחֶם יְהוָה כִּי-עָשָׂה אֶת-הָאָדָם בָּאָרֶץ וַיִּתְעַצֵּב אֶל-לִבּוֹ
Vayinachem HASHEM ki asah et-ha'adam ba'aretz vayit'atzev el-libo.
6. Hashem regretted that He had made man in the earth, and there was anguish in His heart.
ז וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶמְחֶה אֶת-הָאָדָם אֲשֶׁר-בָּרָאתִי מֵעַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה מֵאָדָם עַד-בְּהֵמָה עַד-רֶמֶשׂ וְעַד-עוֹף הַשָּׁמָיִם: כִּי נִחַמְתִּי כִּי עֲשִׂיתִם
Vayomer HASHEM emecheh et ha'adam asher-barati me'al penei ha'adamah me'adam ad-behemah ad-remes ve'ad-of hashamayim ki nichamti ki asitim.
7. HASHEM said, "I will obliterate humanity which I have created from upon the face of the earth - man as well as beasts, creeping things, and birds of the heavens. I regret that I have created them."
ח וְנֹחַ מָצָא חֵן בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה
VeNoach matza chen be'einei HASHEM.
8. But Noach found favor in HASHEM's eyes.
ט אֵלֶּה תּוֹלְדֹת נֹחַ--נֹחַ אִישׁ צַדִּיק תָּמִים הָיָה בְּדֹרֹתָיו: אֶת-הָאֱלֹהִים הִתְהַלֶּךְ-נֹחַ
Eleh toldot Noach Noach ish tzaddik tamim hayah bedorotav et-ha'Elokim hithalech Noach.
9. These are the chronicles of Noach: Noach was a righeous man, faultless in his generation; Noach walked with G-d.
י וַיּוֹלֶד נֹחַ שְׁלֹשָׁה בָנִים--אֶת-שֵׁם אֶת-חָם וְאֶת-יָפֶת
Vayoled Noach shloshah vanim et-Shem et-Cham ve'et-Yafet.
10. Noach fathered three sons: Shem Cham, and Yafet.
יא וַתִּשָּׁחֵת הָאָרֶץ לִפְנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים וַתִּמָּלֵא הָאָרֶץ חָמָס
Vatishachet ha'aretz lifnei ha'Elokim vatimale ha'aretz chamas.
11. The earth was corrupt before G-d, and the land was filled with crime.
יב וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאָרֶץ וְהִנֵּה נִשְׁחָתָה: כִּי-הִשְׁחִית כָּל-בָּשָׂר אֶת-דַּרְכּוֹ עַל-הָאָרֶץ
Vayar Elokim et-ha'aretz vehineh nishchatah ki-hishchit kol-basar et-darko al-ha'aretz.
12. G-d saw the earth, and it was corrupted. All Flesh had perverted their way on the earth.
יג וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים לְנֹחַ קֵץ כָּל-בָּשָׂר בָּא לְפָנַי--כִּי-מָלְאָה הָאָרֶץ חָמָס מִפְּנֵיהֶם; וְהִנְנִי מַשְׁחִיתָם אֶת-הָאָרֶץ
Vayomer Elokim le-Noach ketz kol-basar ba lefanai ki-male'ah ha'aretz chamas mipeneihem vehineni mashchitam et-ha'aretz.
13. G-d said to Noach, "The end of all flesh has come before Me. The earth is full of crime before them, and I will therefore destroy them with th earth."
יד עֲשֵׂה לְךָ תֵּבַת עֲצֵי-גֹפֶר קִנִּים תַּעֲשֶׂה אֶת-הַתֵּבָה וְכָפַרְתָּ אֹתָהּ מִבַּיִת וּמִחוּץ בַּכֹּפֶר
Aseh lecha tevat atzey-gofer kinim ta'aseh et-hatevah vechafarta otah mibayit umichutz bakofer.
14. "Make yourself an tevah [ark] of gopher wood. The tevah sould be divided into compartments. Caulk the inside and outside with pitch."
טו וְזֶה אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתָהּ: שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת אַמָּה אֹרֶךְ הַתֵּבָה חֲמִשִּׁים אַמָּה רָחְבָּהּ וּשְׁלֹשִׁים אַמָּה קוֹמָתָהּ
Vezeh asher ta'aseh otah shelosh me'ot amah orech hatevah chamishim amah rochbah ushloshim amah komatah.
15. "This is how you shall make it: The tevah's length shall be 300 cubits, its width 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits."
טז צֹהַר תַּעֲשֶׂה לַתֵּבָה וְאֶל-אַמָּה תְּכַלֶּנָּה מִלְמַעְלָה וּפֶתַח הַתֵּבָה בְּצִדָּהּ תָּשִׂים תַּחְתִּיִּם שְׁנִיִּם וּשְׁלִשִׁים תַּעֲשֶׂהָ
Tzohar ta'aseh latevah ve'el amah techalenah milmalah ufetach hatevah betzidah tasim tachtim shni'im ushlishim ta'aseha.
16. "Make a skylight for the tevah. Finish it to one cubit on top. Place the tevah's opening on its side. Make a first, second and third deck."
יז וַאֲנִי הִנְנִי מֵבִיא אֶת-הַמַּבּוּל מַיִם עַל-הָאָרֶץ לְשַׁחֵת כָּל-בָּשָׂר אֲשֶׁר-בּוֹ רוּחַ חַיִּים מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמָיִם: כֹּל אֲשֶׁר-בָּאָרֶץ יִגְוָע
Va'ani hineni mevi et-hamabul mayim al-ha'aretz leshachet kol-basar asher-bo ru'ach chayim mitachat hashamayim kol-asher ba'aretz yigva.
17. "I Myself am bringing the flood. Water shall be on the earth to destroy all flesh in which there is the breath of life, from under the heavens. All that is on land will die.
יח וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת-בְּרִיתִי אִתָּךְ וּבָאתָ אֶל-הַתֵּבָה--אַתָּה וּבָנֶיךָ וְאִשְׁתְּךָ וּנְשֵׁי-בָנֶיךָ אִתָּךְ
Vahakimoti et-briti itach uvatah el-hatevah atah uvaneycha ve'ishtecha uneshei-vaneycha itach.
18. "I will keep My promise to you that you will come into the tevah - you, together with your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives."
יט וּמִכָּל-הָחַי מִכָּל-בָּשָׂר שְׁנַיִם מִכֹּל תָּבִיא אֶל-הַתֵּבָה--לְהַחֲיֹת אִתָּךְ: זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה יִהְיוּ
Umikol-hachai mikol-basar shenayim mi-kol tavi el-hatevah lehachayot itach zachar unekevah yihyu.
19. "From all life, from all flesh, two of each bring to the tevah to live with you. They shall be male and female."
כ מֵהָעוֹף לְמִינֵהוּ וּמִן-הַבְּהֵמָה לְמִינָהּ מִכֹּל רֶמֶשׂ הָאֲדָמָה לְמִינֵהוּ--שְׁנַיִם מִכֹּל יָבֹאוּ אֵלֶיךָ לְהַחֲיוֹת
Meha'of leminehu umin-habehemah leminah mikol remes ha'adamah leminehu shenayim mikol yavo'u eleicha lehachayot.
20. "From the birds of their kind, from the animals of their kind, from every creeping thing of the ground of its kind, two of each you shall bring to you to live."
כא וְאַתָּה קַח-לְךָ מִכָּל-מַאֲכָל אֲשֶׁר יֵאָכֵל וְאָסַפְתָּ אֵלֶיךָ; וְהָיָה לְךָ וְלָהֶם לְאָכְלָה
Ve'atah kach-lecha mikol-ma'achal asher ye'achel ve'asafta eleicha vehayah lecha velahem le'ochlah.
21. "Take for yourself all the food that will be eaten, and gather it next to you. It shall be for you and for them to eat."
כב וַיַּעַשׂ נֹחַ: כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֹתוֹ אֱלֹהִים--כֵּן עָשָׂה
Vaya'as Noach kechol asher tzivah oto Elokim ken asah.
22. Noach did all that G-d had commanded him; he did it exactly.
