Bereishit Chapter 5

א זֶה סֵפֶר תּוֹלְדֹת אָדָם בְּיוֹם בְּרֹא אֱלֹהִים אָדָם בִּדְמוּת אֱלֹהִים עָשָׂה אֹתוֹ

Zeh sefer toledot Adam beyom bero Elokim Adam bidemut Elokim asah oto.

1. This is the book of the chronicles of Adam. On the day that G-d created Adam, He made him in the likeness of G-d.

ב זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה בְּרָאָם וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתָם וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמָם אָדָם בְּיוֹם הִבָּרְאָם

Zachar unekevah bera'am vayevarech otam vayikra et-shemam Adam beyom hibare'am.

2. Male and female He created them. and He blessed them and named them Man [Adam] on the day that they were created.

ג וַיְחִי אָדָם שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בִּדְמוּתוֹ כְּצַלְמוֹ וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמוֹ שֵׁת

Vayechi Adam shloshim ume'at shanah vayoled bidemuto ketzalmo vayikra et-shemo Shet.

3. Adam lived 130 years, and he had a son in his likeness and form, and he named him Shet.

ד וַיִּהְיוּ יְמֵי-אָדָם אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-שֵׁת שְׁמֹנֶה מֵאֹת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayihyu yemei-Adam acharei holido et-Shet shmoneh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

4. Adam lived 800 years after he had Shet, and he had sons and daughters.

ה וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי אָדָם אֲשֶׁר-חַי תְּשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei Adam asher-chai tzha me'ot shanah ushloshim shanah vayamot.

5. All the days of Adam that he lived were 930 years, and he died.

ו וַיְחִי-שֵׁת חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-אֱנוֹשׁ

Vayechi-Shet chamesh shanim ume'at shanah vayoled et-Enosh.

6. Shet lived 105 years and he had a son Enosh.

ז וַיְחִי-שֵׁת אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-אֱנוֹשׁ שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi-Shet acharei holido et-Enosh sheva shanim ushmoneh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

7. Shet lived 807 years after he had Enosh, and he had sons and daughters.

ח וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי-שֵׁת שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei-Shet shtem esreh shanah utsha me'ot shanah vayamot.

8. All the days of Shet were 912 years, and he died.

ט וַיְחִי אֱנוֹשׁ תִּשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-קֵינָן

Vayechi Enosh tish'im shanah vayoled et-Keinan.

9. Enosh lived 90 years, and he had a son Keinan.

י וַיְחִי אֱנוֹשׁ אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-קֵינָן חֲמֵשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi Enosh acharei holido et-Keinan chamesh esreh shanah ushmoneh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

10. Enosh lived 815 years after he had Keinan, and he had sons and daughters.

יא וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי אֱנוֹשׁ חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei Enosh chamesh shanim utesha me'ot shanah vayamot.

11. All the days of Enosh were 905 years, and he died.

יב וַיְחִי קֵינָן שִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-מַהֲלַלְאֵל

Vayechi Keinan shiv'im shanah vayoled et-Mahalalel.

12. Keinan lived 70 years and he had a son Mahalalel.

יג וַיְחִי קֵינָן אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-מַהֲלַלְאֵל אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi Keinan acharei holido et-Mahalalel arba'im shanah ushmoneh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

13. And Keinan lived 840 years after he had Mahalalel, and he had sons and daughters.

יד וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי קֵינָן עֶשֶׂר שָׁנִים וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei Keynan eser shanim utesha me'ot shanah vayamot.

14. All the days of Keinan were 910 years, and he died.

טו וַיְחִי מַהֲלַלְאֵל חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-יָרֶד

Vayechi Mahalalel chamesh shanim veshishim shanah vayoled et-Yered.

15. Mahalalel lived 65 years and he had a son Yered.

טז וַיְחִי מַהֲלַלְאֵל אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-יֶרֶד שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi Mahalalel acharei holido et-Yered shloshim shanah ushmoneh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

16. Mahalalel lived 830 years after he had Yered, and he had sons and daughters.

יז וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי מַהֲלַלְאֵל חָמֵשׁ וְתִשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei Mahalalel chamesh vetish'im shanah ushmoneh me'ot shanah vayamot.

17. All the days of Mahalalel were 895 years, and he died.

יח וַיְחִי-יֶרֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּמְאַת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-חֲנוֹךְ

Vayechi-Yered shtayim veshishim shanah ume'at shanah vayoled et-Chanoch.

18. Yered lived 162 years and he had a son Chanoch.

יט וַיְחִי-יֶרֶד אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-חֲנוֹךְ שְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi Yered acharei holido et-Chanoch shmoneh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

19. Yered lived 800 years after he had Chanoch, and he had sons and daughters.

כ וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי-יֶרֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei Yered shtayim veshishim shanah utesha me'ot shanah vayamot.

20. All the days of Yered were 962 years, and he died.

כא וַיְחִי חֲנוֹךְ חָמֵשׁ וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-מְתוּשָׁלַח

Vayechi Chanoch chamesh veshishim shanah vayoled et-Metushelach.

21. Chanoch lived 65 years and he had a son Metushelach.

כב וַיִּתְהַלֵּךְ חֲנוֹךְ אֶת-הָאֱלֹהִים אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-מְתוּשֶׁלַח שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayithalech Chanoch et-ha'Elokim acharei holido et-Metushelach shlosh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

22. Chanoch walked with G-d for 300 years after he had Metushelach, and he had sons and daughters.

כג וַיְהִי כָּל-יְמֵי חֲנוֹךְ חָמֵשׁ וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה

Vayehi kol-yemei Chanoch chamesh veshishim shanah ushlosh me'ot shanah.

23. All the days of Chanoch were 365 years.

כד וַיִּתְהַלֵּךְ חֲנוֹךְ אֶת-הָאֱלֹהִים וְאֵינֶנּוּ כִּי-לָקַח אֹתוֹ אֱלֹהִים

Vayithalech Chanoch et-ha'Elokim ve'einenu ki-lakach oto Elokim.

24. Chanoch walked with G-d, and he was no more, because G-d had taken him.

Shevi'i

כה וַיְחִי מְתוּשֶׁלַח שֶׁבַע וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-לָמֶךְ

Vayechi Metushelach sheva ushmonim shanah ume'at shanah vayoled et-Lamech.

25. Metushelach lived 187 years and he had a son Lemech.

Shevi'i

כו וַיְחִי מְתוּשֶׁלַח, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-לֶמֶךְ, שְׁתַּיִם וּשְׁמוֹנִים שָׁנָה, וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi Metushelach acharei holido et-Lemech shtayim ushmonim shanah ushva me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

26. Metushelach lived 782 years after he had Lemech, and he had sons and daughters.

כז וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל-יְמֵי מְתוּשֶׁלַח תֵּשַׁע וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayihyu kol-yemei Metushelach tesha veshishim shanah utsha me'ot shanah vayamot.

27. All the days of Metushelach were 969 years, and he died.

כח וַיְחִי-לֶמֶךְ שְׁתַּיִם וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בֵּן

Vayechi-Lemech shtayim ushmonim shanah ume'at shanah vayoled ben.

28. Lemech lived 182 years and had a son.

כט וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמוֹ נֹחַ לֵאמֹר זֶה יְנַחֲמֵנוּ מִמַּעֲשֵׂנוּ וּמֵעִצְּבוֹן יָדֵינוּ מִן-הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אֵרְרָהּ יְהוָה

Vayikra et-shemo Noach lemor zeh yenachamenu mima'asenu ume'itzvon yadeinu min-ha'adamah asher erarah HASHEM.

29. He named him Noach, saying, "This one will bring us relief from our work and the anguish of our hands, from the soil which HASHEM has cursed."

ל וַיְחִי-לֶמֶךְ אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-נֹחַ חָמֵשׁ וְתִשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וַחֲמֵשׁ מֵאֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת

Vayechi-Lemech acharei holido et-Noach chamesh vetish'im shanah vachamesh me'ot shanah vayoled banim uvanot.

30. Lemech lived 595 years after he had Noach, and he had sons and daughters.

לא וַיְהִי כָּל-יְמֵי-לֶמֶךְ שֶׁבַע וְשִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת

Vayehi kol-yemei-Lemech sheva veshiv'im shanah ushva me'ot shanah vayamot.

31. All the days of Lemech were 777 years, and he died.

לב וַיְהִי-נֹחַ בֶּן-חֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד נֹחַ אֶת-שֵׁם אֶת-חָם וְאֶת-יָפֶת

Vayehi Noach ben-chamesh me'ot shanah vayoled Noach et-Shem et-Cham ve'et Yafet.

32. Noach was 500 years old, and Noach fathered Shem, Cham, and Yafet.
