Advice From Our Sages
For a Safe Journey
Our Sages advise before one embarks on a trip, one should go to their Rabbi for a blessing. One should give charity on the day of the trip. One should recite Tehillim 121. When you leave your home, place your hand on your mezuzah and say "May G-d watch my going and my return." Take money with you to give out upon arriving to your destination for charity.
This process is called Shliach Mitzvah - a messenger for a mitzvah. This provides Divine protection.
Finally always recite Tefilat Haderech - the prayer for a safe journey. (Rabbi Yisroel Jungreis)
